March Goals Report (2019) – Successes and Failures

March Goals Report (2019) – Successes and Failures

March 6, 2019 0 By Ben Yearwood

At the beginning of this year, I set myself 35 goals to achieve by the end of 2019.

I also committed myself to transparently sharing my goals progress every month along with my successes and failures along the way.

January Goals Report

February Goals Report

In this post, I talk about my March Goals Report and my progress over the last month.

March Goals Report

My Main Health Goal

I will easily build a lean, muscular body of 220lbs with only 10% body fat by December 31st 2019 and maintain this body throughout the course of the year,

Strength

Using www.strengthlevel.com as my list of standards, I will easily increase the strength of every one of my major lifts to intermediate level, focusing on building strength and good technique twice a week.

  • Bench Press
    • Starting Point = 47.5kg
    • Current = 60kg
    • Target = 120kg
  • Squat
    • Starting Point = 67.5kg
    • Current = 82.5kg
    • Target = 160kg
  • Deadlift
    • Starting Point = 75kg
    • Current = 92.5kg
    • Target = 180kg
  • Overhead Press
    • Starting Point = 40kg
    • Current = 52.5kg
    • Target = 80kg
  • Barbell Row
    • Starting Point = 65kg
    • Current = 70kg
    • Target = 105kg

In order to more effectively build my desired body, I have changed my current workout program to focus more on weightlifting. Though I am still using the five main exercises, I have also added others which will account for my isolation and core exercises.

I hope to be able to share my workout regime in a future post.

This month, I was not 100% with my workouts, missing a couple over the course of the month. For the coming month, I have ensured that I will not have any distractions from my goals.

I found myself reverting back to a lot of my old ways, blaming stress and anxiety. However, I have no one to blame but myself for my lack of progress.

I know what I am trying to achieve. My focus on this goal is back.

I will also easily complete a regimen of core strength training exercises twice a week.

This has now been incorporated into my main workout.

Flexibility

I will easily begin practising yoga and begin a daily yoga practice to build both strength and flexibility.

Not started yet – likely won’t start until after March.

Endurance

I will easily run three times per week and raise my endurance until I can run 10 kilometres in one hour.

I’m still running about 5.5km during my runs, but I have pulled back a little bit on this goal. Where my focus is on building more lean mass, cardio isn’t too helpful for that.

So, I will be reducing this goal down to once a week, though I will push myself further each week, even if it’s only an extra 100 meters.

Challenges

I will easily complete the Spartan Race Trifecta by December 31st 2019.

Not booked yet.

Diet

I will easily design and follow the ideal diet for my body goals whether it be cutting fat or bulking muscle.

Last month, I was not 100% with my diet plan. I let myself get carried away a little bit too easily.

To really make sure that I am ready for the bulking phase of my health plan, I will spend the next four weeks on a strict, cutting diet. This will help me to shed the last few pounds that I need to drop before I begin to bulk up.

My Main Mental Health Goal

I will easily improve my life by completely eliminating what remains of my social anxiety and depression, boosting my self-esteem and implementing better self-care routines in my life by December 31st 2019 and maintain this throughout the year.

Workbooks

I will easily complete the following workbooks and will learn the techniques to build a system based on self-care by December 31st 2019:

  • The CBT Workbook
  • The Self-Esteem Workbook
  • The Self-Confidence Workbook
  • Mindfulness: A Practical Guide
  • The Anxiety and Worry Workbook
  • The Compassionate Mind Workbook

I didn’t make much progress with the CBT Workbook. However, I am now on Week 4 of the Mindfulness program.

For March, I intend to set aside some time every morning to complete some of my workbooks. This will also give me the opportunity to work on my lessons throughout the day.

Self-Care Rituals

I will easily create a habit of daily, weekly and monthly self-care check-ins to ensure that I am staying on the right path.

I’ve still been having trouble finding the time to do this.

In order to make this easier, I will schedule a weekly meeting with myself to check-in on my emotions, feelings and progress.

More on this next month.

Habits

I will easily install new good habits into my life as replacements for my previous habits.

There is no excuse.

I definitely fell off this month when it came to my important habits. But, as I’ve said before, there is no sense in starting over. I will pick up where I left off and be stronger for it

My Main Relationships Goal

I will easily create an open, honest relationship with an amazing girlfriend by December 31st 2019.

At the moment, this goal is not a massive priority for me.

I’m currently doing a lot of work on myself. More specifically, I’ve been working to find out who is the most authentic me. I really want to make sure that I am in the best place possible.

However, I have been using a few of the popular dating apps and have even started talking to a few interesting women in February. It remains to be seen what progress I will make in March, but I’m excited to see what happens next.

My Main Family & Friends Goal

I will easily spend quality time with my friends and family every month.

This goal has been progressing particularly well. I was able to spend a lot of time with my friends and family this month.

I made a trip to London to see some friends from university and had an amazing time connecting with my brother and his family.

This is one of the goals that is the most worthwhile for me at the moment and I really enjoy making progress on it.

My Financial Goal

I will easily save £3000 whilst living a healthier financial life of freedom by December 31st 2019.

Create A Budget

I will easily create a budget to meet my financial needs whilst making room for savings and having fun with my life.

My budget has been completed. Now, I just have to make sure that I’m following it regularly.

Cut Expenditure

I will easily cut my monthly expenditure every month thus freeing more money for other ventures in my life

I was able to cut down my expenditure, though not by as much as I thought (about £40). Still, progress is progress and I’m pleased I was able to make some.

Save Monthly

I will easily set aside £300 every month to save every month which should easily take me up to my target amount plus room for emergencies and errors.

I wasn’t able to save any money in February as I had a shift in priorities towards the end of the month. However, I did put things in place so that I would not see such a shift in March.

My Brand Goals

I will easily quit my job and become fully self-employed by December 31st 2019.

Value Creation (Content Creation)

I will easily publish 2 blog posts a week, providing maximum value to my readers by December 31st 2019.

I published 7 blog posts, 2 short of what I should have published by my blogging schedule. Since February, I have developed a new blogging and marketing plan which will help me to stay on track with all that I have to do.

I will easily create and distribute twelve free resources on various self-improvement topics by December 31st 2019.

No progress on this yet.

Self-Marketing

I will easily drive 100 page views to my blog per month by March 31st 2019 through my self-marketing efforts.

Last month I hit the first part of this goal and moved the deadline for the second part up by three months. However, I suspect that this was a hasty decision and, as such, I have decided to push it back.

Whilst I still think I could hit the goal, I want to focus on making sure that the engagement on my blog is high. Page views mean nothing if people are not engaging. So, I will be working towards the next big goal, but also ensuring that my page engagement grows as well.

I will easily drive 1000 page views to my blog per month by June 30th 2019 through my self-marketing efforts.

Finally, I will easily drive 100 page views to my blog per day by December 31st 2019 through my self-marketing efforts.

Social Media Marketing

I will easily attract 5000 Pinterest Followers and have 10,000 50000 monthly engagements by December 31st 2019.

This month, I grew my Pinterest Followers to 1013 and my monthly engagements to 12,000. As such, I have decided to increase my monthly engagements goal to 50,000. I will keep the followers goal the same.

I believe I am beginning to get the hang of Pinterest Marketing and I hope to see huge progress and growth in March.

Develop 2 Digital Products

I will easily create two full-length e-books by September 30th 2019

Goal under review.

Sell My Products Through My Website

I will easily create a new income stream by December 31st 2019.

Not started yet.

Start Coaching Others

I will gain accreditations to practice the following by June 30th 2019:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Life Coaching
  • Neuro Linguistic Programming
  • Hypnotherapy

I have begun my Level 4 CBT qualification and will be working a lot more in March towards its completion.

I will begin coaching my first client by September 30th 2019.

Not started yet.

I will easily attract the right clients to my coaching business by December 31st 2019 and create a thriving business which will help the lives of many.

Not started yet.

My Main Learning Goal

I will easily complete 100 high-quality books, learn 12 new skills and complete 12 courses on my personal Key Performance Areas by December 31st 2019.

Reading 100 Books

In February, I completed 7 books focussed mainly on psychology:

  1. Blink – Malcolm Gladwell
  2. How We Learn – Benedict Carey
  3. Flipnosis – Kevin Dutton
  4. The Marshmallow Test – Walter Mischel
  5. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – Jason M. Satterfield
  6. The Psychology of Performance – Dr Eddie O’Connor
  7. Finding Flow – Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

This is a lot less than I would have wanted it to be, but I am still on track to complete 100 books by the end of the year.

12 New Skills

I will easily learn 12 new, unique skills both for practical knowledge and for fun.

This month, I learned how to complete 100 pushups every day and challenged myself for 21 days. It was really good fun and it showed me that my body can handle a lot more than I thought.

This month, I will be teaching myself some simple yoga routines to use in my morning routine. I will also begin learning how to effectively touch type.

12 KPA Courses

I will easily complete 12 courses in Key Performance Areas on the following subjects:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Advanced Speed Reading and Memory Techniques
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Digital Marketing
  • Writing
  • Premiere Pro CC
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming
  • Life Coaching
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Mindfulness

I have developed a learning plan which will cover my monthly reading, course completion and much more. This should help me to schedule in more daily time to work on all of my learning goals.

My Personal Freedom Goals

Learn to swim by June 30th 2019.
Learn to drive by June 30th 2019.
Purchase my first car by September 30th 2019.
Attend a meditation retreat by December 31st 2019.

None of these has been started yet.

Final Thoughts

February was a really crap month in terms of goals progress.

I have only got myself to blame for that. I allowed myself to put off workouts, eating healthy, working on business and taking care of myself generally and that is simply not acceptable.

However, there is no point in dwelling on those mistakes.

I am determined that March will be my most successful month to date and I will work hard to make that vision a reality.
